Right now we are trialing the Tobii eye gaze system for Reilly. It is an amazing piece of technology that allows the User to control the software applications through the use of their eyes, and ultimately provide a way to communicate their needs, desires and wants. Just as we were leaving Ontario they approved this device for girls with Rett Syndrome but here in Alberta it is still not approved. Nevertheless, I wanted to try out the different options and help build the case that it is worth the approval.
Interestingly enough, my husband recently came across a news clip about Steve Gleason, a former football player, who now has ALS and uses a Tobii as his communication tool. Given the severity of ALS, it is the only way for him to communicate and communicate he does, including an incredible opportunity to interview Pearl Jam.
