Winter Fireworks

One week ago tonight we attended our first Winter fireworks event.  We were at my parent’s place visiting for the Family Day long weekend, an annual tradition. This weekend the area was part of the Frontenac Heritage festival that organized tours of historic buildings and lot of different activities for the family, including a polar dip event. I debated on participating but didn’t sign up in advance and on the morning of when I saw that it was -20 degrees celcius without accounting for the wind, I easily reconsidered. Apparently there were 39 crazy dippers who still braved the icy waters.

As part of the celebrations, my parent’s small community put on an amazing Fireworks event. Given that it is winter, it had an early starting time of 7.00 pm and still very cold out.  We bundled up and headed out to the event.  It was hilarious to hear London refer to this being her first time in person seeing Fireworks beyond the ipad, for we have a Fireworks app on the ipad for Reilly to use. It is actually a great app in that wherever you touch the screen, some pretty good graphical fireworks appear and given that Reilly does not have fine motor skills she can easily create the cause and effect of the fireworks. Good old technology.

The one regret of the night was that we didn’t take pictures of ourselves all bundled up with snow all around watching them.  It truly was a neat experience for up to this point I have only seen Fireworks in the summer months.  Here are just a couple of photos my other half took:
